why use a consultant | day and boarding | college | special needs

Your family's goal is to place your student in a setting that will foster academic, social, and emotional growth. My former roles as Headmaster, Admissions Director (de facto), and College Advisor provide insight into school requirements and how best to position applicants to meet them. Since the opening of The George G. Kirkpatrick Co:
  • More than 1000 client families and 1700 students from 33 states and 29 countries have received counseling.
  • 92% of clients have gained admission to their first choice school.
  • 98% of college and special needs clients have been admitted to their first choice school or program.

Strategies for Success is a comprehensive search process lasting until your student has gained admission to a school that best meets his or her unique requirements for a challenging scholastic and extra-curricular program, within an atmosphere conducive to personal growth. During this process I will:

  1. Meet with you and your student in order to understand your family's educational philosophy and vision for the student's future as it impacts school choices. The student's academic, extra curricular, and emotional profile; school size and location; social and religious atmosphere; and budgetary concerns are all central to the decision process.
  2. Read and analyze all school grade reports and achievement and psycho-educational testing enabling me to become intimately acquainted with your student's needs.
  3. Work with your family on all facets of the admission process: setting a timeline, testing requirements, interview techniques, resume and essay writing, campus visits, references, strategies, and advocacy.
  4. Communicate with professionals who have worked with your student (counselors, teachers, psychologists, psychiatrists) and make referrals for any necessary testing or tutoring.
  5. Impart comprehensive knowledge of each appropriate school, college, or special needs program (academic requirements and unique social and emotional atmosphere), enabling you to focus on choices that will fulfill your goal to achieve a challenging and rewarding school experience.
  6. Submit a recommendation for your student to each school to which application has been made and act as advocate with the school on your student's behalf.

If the six-step program is not what you require, in special cases I also offer consultation on an hourly basis (with a two hour minimum, three hour maximum).

The confidentiality of the counseling/family relationship will be honored in all regards.
